Born and educated in Scotland, Janet took drawing classes at Glasgow School of Art in her early
teens, before going on to study at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, graduating in 1972 -
her tutors were Alberto Morrocco, David McClure and Jack Knox. In 1971 she was one of twelve Scottish
art students awarded a place at Hospitalfield House Summer School and in 1974 she was awarded a British
Council/Yugoslavian Government Scholarship to study painting at Belgrade University for one year.
In 1978 Janet moved to London, arriving at a time when the ‘East End’ - with its affordable housing
and studios - provided a haven for artists. During the 80’s and 90’s she worked in both painting and p
rintmaking and exhibited widely as a member of the Printmakers Council. Since moving studio to 'south
of the river' in 2000, her old studio having been demolished for the siting and building of the 2012 Olympic Park,
she has concentrated on painting. She has exhibited throughout the UK; her work is in private and corporate
collections and the Duncan of Jordanstone College, University of Dundee collection.
